Stop and smell the _____ .

We have all heard the phrase. I remember hearing it as a kid, but never gave any thought to what it means at the time. Even as I completely understand what it means now, I still rarely give any thought to following the advice.

It dawned on me recently about all the walks, jogs, bike rides, and whatevers over the years, that I never pay much attention to what’s around me. Yes, I pay attention to the road, cars, and big scary dogs, but not to the the natural world.

I told myself that I should make an effort to. I thought one way would be to try and take a photo of something, anything. So my goal will be to stop and snap a photo of nature each time I’m outside moving. At a minimum, it will force me to take a few second pause. Maybe it’ll encourage me to pause more. Maybe it’ll encourage me to exercise more. Even if it flops and this is my only one, it allowed me to take my first photo of a flower on this phone.

This is a Yellow Daylily. Easier to say then the slightly more complicated Hemerocallis lilioasphodelus. The genus Hemerocallis means “the beautiful day,” which seems fitting for this sunny fella. I hope you are having a beautiful day.

Ferris Bueller: “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” June 11, 1986

Yellow is always fun.
