Why baseball cards?

Why random, old baseball cards? Because of the scent of the cardboard. Because of the photographer taking the photo. Because of the statistician compiling numbers for kids to examine. Look at the players eyes. What was he thinking that day, what was going on in his life and not just the snapshot on a sunny day? A little piece of history, literally. With buried information. And at a minimum, I think they are just really fun to look at. Simple pieces of cardboard.

The fairly obscure to me doesn’t mean they were obscure to their friends, family, or fans of the team at the time. Maybe this will give a little tip of the hat to someone that made it to a level that typically every little boy dreams of when he puts on his little league uniform. Back when the world was completely wide open and everything was possible. As anyone is reading this now, maybe not everything is quite possible anymore, as I’m going to assume I won’t be making my major league debut given that I haven’t played in roughly 30 years. Never mind the other fact that I also was horrible at baseball.

Things are still possible for all of us. Maybe not professional baseball, but our minds can still dream, our souls can still hope, our hearts can still want, and we can work towards achieving the world. There’s always things for us to achieve, and those things want to be achieved. So we might as well try.
