Are You My Mother?

All in all, it was a productive Saturday for me. Yoga, cycling, and beer. Just a different form of a triathlon. Plus the bonus of a childhood memory of a book snuck in. Plenty of sunshine and a touch of sunburn helped officially mark the start of summer this weekend.

A gorgeous morning for outdoor yoga. I counted 35 others who made the decision to come out and enjoy. I found a little patch of shade to park myself. Walking around outdoors barefoot is such a treat. Not sure why it doesn’t happen more often as there isn’t a great excuse for me not to.

Dancing shadows.

The first song that came over the instructor’s sound system was 311’s “Amber.” (I worry I’m somehow dating myself by saying the phrase sound system). 311 was intertwined with high school for me, including my 3-hour road trip to hear them in person. The fact that they were from Omaha is a tidbit that adds another reason for me being proud to be from the Midwest.

March 11th is always a day to celebrate.

After finishing up with yoga and walking to the car, I was reminded of one of the books I remember fondly as a child. I read “Are You My Mother?” so many times. Tattered and torn, it was one of my favorites.

Published in 1960, it shows up on many lists of top children’s books.
This Snort is what I remembered most about this classic.
A real life snort, which spurred my memory.

After yoga, I ventured out on the highway to get a ride in. The first time in a very long time, which my muscles definitely felt. It was great to get out in the sun and feel the wind, except the times it was a directly in my face. Very relaxing. Very quiet.

Took a couple minute break at my turnaround point.

I was happy to celebrate my day’s accomplishments with a cold beer. Dove into this Keg Creek Lemonade Stand Gose from Glenwood, IA. I give it 2 thumbs up. At this point in the day, I may have given 2 thumbs up to pretty much any liquid in front of me, but I did think the beer was great.

Gose beers received their name from originating in Goslar, Germany.

I was happy with my Saturday. I crossed off a few things that I wanted to do. I got to enjoy the fresh air. It was just a good day.

Random quote I read and liked: “True life is lived when tiny changes occur.” – Leo Tolstoy. If we aren’t making changes and moving forward, then we are stuck. I don’t want to be stuck.
